Today’s print review is the first one written in English and Japanese on this blog. The print I am reviewing today is AP’s Strawberry Whip series.

まず、ワンピースです。　普通のワンピースの姿ですが、ヘムはリボンが可愛くて、プリントによく似合います。そして、甘ロリの物ですが、チョーカーはワンピースが上品になると思います。けど、シャーリングがないので、色々なサイズに合わないかもしれません。アイボリーはデザートのクリームのような色だから、綺麗です。

First is the OP. While it is in the usual OP shape, the bows on the hem are cute and complement the print. Also, the choker does make the OP look elegant despite it being a Sweet Lolita piece. However, because it has no shirring, it may not fit a variety of body shapes. The ivory colourway is pretty because the main colour matches the colour of the cream on the pastries.

次はミニ袖ワンピースです。襟は広いので、リボンがないと、つまらなくなると思うので、それをしたら、ネックレスをしてみた方が良いです。このワンピースはシンプルなカットなので、プリントは見やすいです。シャーリングと袖のゴムがあるから、色々なサイズに合います。そして、ピンクはプリントがもっと可愛くなると思います。

Next is the mini sleeve OP. Because the collar is wide, if you removed the ribbon, it would become boring. Because of that, you should probably place a necklace instead of the ribbon if you choose to remove it. As the OP has a simple shape, it makes the print pop out. Also, as there is shirring and sleeve elastic, it should fit multiple body shapes. The pink colourway makes the print cuter, in my opinion.

最終はジャンパースカートです。ワンピースと同じように、ヘムはリボンが可愛いし、フリルはクラシカルな感じがちょっと付けています。でも、クラシカルロリータの物ではありません。ジャンパースカートなので、ブラースやカーディガンと着るても綺麗です。シャーリングがあるので、色々なサイズが着られますが、ミニ袖ワンピースの方が広がることになれると思います。ラベンダーはプリントのデザインが見やすくなるそうです。

Last is the jumper skirt. Just like with the OP, the bows on the hem are cute and the frill adds a bit of a classical feeling to the JSK. However, this is not a Classic Lolita piece. Because it is a jumper skirt, it will look nice with a blouse or a cardigan. Because there is shirring, it should fit various body shapes but I believe the mini sleeve OP is more elastic. The lavender does make it easier to see the print.

  

赤はカントリ風になると思います。このプリントは可愛くて、綺麗だと思います。プリティさんの苺のプリントは素敵ですが、次のプリントは初恋の香りなどの白い苺があったらいいと思います。Strawberry Whip を買うことが出来れば、何の色とワンピースとかミニ袖ワンピースとかジャンパースカートを決めることが難しいです。なぜなら、全てを好みます。

The red colourway does make it have a country feel in my opinion. This print is cute and pretty. While AP’s strawberry prints are lovely, I think it would be good if the next one had white strawberries such as Hatsukoi no kaori (an expensive white strawberry in Japan) on it. If I could buy Strawberry Whip, I would find it hard to choose which cut and colour because I like all of them.

Angelic Pretty's Dreamy Jewel

Today, I am going to review AP's latest release, Dreamy Jewel. It is an unusual print for Lolita because it uses jewels as a motif.

First is the OP. It is a long sleeved piece with a lace neck line and the rest of the dress has the Dreamy Jewel print on it. The red does make the print stand out and look elegant. However, the OP has no shirring, making it restricted in terms of sizing as well as the time when it can be worn due to the long sleeves. It does look elegant though.

Next is the ribbon JSK. It also has the print all over the piece with a bow on the chest. Due to the shirring, this could fit a variety of sizes but if you have a non-standard Asian shape, I would recommend trying it on before buying it, which is nearly impossible to do without a local AP store. The JSK does look nice and the pink does bring out the details of the jewels and the background. It also is more versatile in terms of season and dressing it up or down (it would be difficult to put any Dreamy Jewel print into a casual Lolita coord due to the jewel print, in my opinion).

While I do not normally review anything other than the OP/JSK/skirts of the reviewed print, I had to include the Dreamy Jewel tights because of the detail and how it would look nice with a plain Lolita main piece (by main piece, I am referring to OP, JSK and/or skirt) or a non Lolita outfit as well as Dreamy Jewel. Personally, I would buy these tights if they would fit me. As I do not know what the sizing range is, if anyone knows the sizing limits to AP tights, please comment below. With the tights, they look extravagant and I don't think anyone would know that these came from AP/another Lolita brand if they have never seen them before. Also, they would suit any length skirt as it is split into three different sections, which would create a different effect for each length.

Overall, I would buy this print in any colour as each one has its charm and I would try pairing any main piece with mainstream jewellery including a jewelled hair accessory in order to bring out the jewels in the print. If I had the money, I would buy something from this print right away (I wished I had a job now and not just because of the money).

Angelic Pretty's Classic Fairy Tales

It has been a long time since I have done a print review but today I am reviewing AP's Classic Fairy Tales series. At first, I thought that the print is more BTSSB or Innocent World than AP because of it being more classic Lolita and it's not what AP is known for.

First is the OP, which has removable sleeves, making it good for all seasons. It has a collar which makes it look like the wearer is wearing a blouse underneath when the detachable sleeves are used. The waist bow blends into the OP in a nice way. One problem with the OP is that it has no shirring, which does limit its sizing. The vertical trim lines on the bodice do look nice on the OP. Overall, it is a nice classic OP.



Next is the skirt, which is in a standard AP skirt size, making it flexible in terms of sizing to an extent. The skirt has a simple construction, which makes the print stand out and the bows can be removed. However, I would not remove the smaller front bow. That is because there would be a gap in the lace trim on the waist, which could ruin the effect. Overall, this is a nice skirt that I would consider buying if it was my style.

 

Finally, The JSK, which is flexible in terms of its sizing, meaning it could fit a variety of Lolitas. The bodice does look nice with its vertical lace trim and criss cross ribbon. This JSK looks like it could be won with a blouse or an outer in lieu of the former. The waist bow does blend into the JSK in the same way as the OP but I feel that this would suit a curvier Lolita well due to the low neckline, which is why I think AP made the right choice in making this include shirring. Overall, this is a well designed JSK.

 

As for the print, I feel that it is similar to Baby and IW but has an AP twist to it. While it is not my style, I do like the print series. (However, things could change just like with my Dramatic Rose skirt. While I was not interested in the print at first, I grew in love with the skirt over time.) If I was to buy this, I would consider buying a green JSK or skirt as the lighter colour does bring out the print well and the JSK and skirt are more flexible in terms of creating a coord with.





Angelic Pretty's Cream Cookie Collection

It's been a long time since I have done a print review. This one will be about Angelic Pretty's newest print: Cream Cookie Collection.

 

First is the ribbon JSK, which only has the print on the skirt, which is unusual for AP but it does make the JSK more elegant. What makes the JSK well suited to different body shapes is the bodice of the JSK, which uses princess seams and has ample shirring. The simple bodice design, with a bow at the waist and lace at the top ensures that even if you have a bust, it is not going to affect the look of the JSK dramatically. Personally, I think it is a nice JSK to wear if you have reservations about wearing a print or are more of a Classic Lolita but do want to wear something Sweet.

 

 

 



Next is the OP, which is long sleeved and does not have shirring. While I think it is a nice OP with a Sweet feel that seems old fashioned due to the print, it is not very versatile due to the sleeves and lack of shirring. While a replica of this OP would be nice for those who would not be able to fit into the OP, I do not think replicas are good because they copy the creative property of the brands and limit the creativity of indie brands. While I understand that it is autumn in Japan, I would prefer if the OP had detachable sleeves so it could be either long or short sleeved in order to make it something that could be worn year round.

Overall, the Cream Cookie Collection print is Sweet but has an old fashioned feeling which is unique in using a motif that is something that could be made at home or bought. The use packaging in the print is unusual but does have biscuit containers that could be used as a collector's edition today in order to celebrate the anniversary of a type of biscuit. The "mini bear cookie" squares remind me of Tiny Teddies, which are a well known Australian biscuit that has been around since the 1990s. The grid pattern used in the print is effective because of the resemblance to a biscuit or chocolate gift box. I would buy Cream Cookie collection in any of the colours except for  brown because I think the other three colours work well with the biscuit motifs and create a Sweet feel.

Angelic Pretty's Fancy Paper Dolls

Today, Angelic Pretty just released its newest print: Fancy Paper Dolls. This print is unique in that it is toy themed but in a different way. Another thing that is unusual for a print release is that it has no OP.

 

 

 First is the tiered JSK. It is high waisted but it has a belt like ribbon on it. The lace neck line is soft and has three bows on it, two in the same colour as the JSK and one in a different colour. One clever use of the print is to use a smaller print on the bodice and first skirt tier and to use a bigger print on the bottom tier. It also has full back shirring, making it very flexible in terms of sizing.

 

 

Next is the collared JSK. It also has the same print design and waist ribbon as the tiered JSK but it is less high waisted and does not have a tiered skirt. The collar adds a semi quirky feel to a pretty unique print. When tied, the halter ties create a gigantic bow, which is cute. The ribbon from the collar adds a lovely touch to it has well as the collar edging. The heart shaped buttons also add a cute but elegant touch, which reminds me why I am so attracted to Sweet Lolita. This JSK has half back shirring, also making it fit a variety of sizes.

 

 

 

Finally, the print itself. The Fancy Paper Dolls print uses two AP mascots: Lyrical Bunny and Shy Bear as well as another bunny and a mouse. The print is cute and quirky due to the use of animals and the paper cut out doll theme. It even goes as far as using furniture and décor that would belong in a doll house/girl's bedroom. One thing that I find unique in this print is that it incorporates the Dreamy Baby Room OP, bonnet and the iconic heart pochette.

 

Overall, this is a nice print. One thing that is interesting about this print is that all of the colours have their merits, but I would have a hard time choosing between the pink, sax and lavender colourways. This is because I am not a big fan of using black in Sweet Lolita, personally. Speaking of mascots and iconic pieces, two which I would like to see in a new release is Vanilla Chan and the famous Pony Bag. They are too cute.







Angelic Pretty's Promenade de Paris series

Today, AP just released its Promenade de Paris series, which is the first city inspired print I have seen in Lolita.

First, the OP has a boatneck/sailor neck line with a bib on the top. Instead of the waist bow, it has a waist ribbon, which creates a belt like effect. Also, the pleats at the bottom is something different from the lace that is normally seen. The use of a pink background with purple detailing is cute. The only problem with the OP is that it has no shirring whatsoever, which restricts the sizing. Overall, it is a nice OP.

 

 

Next is the halter neck JSK, which has a larger bib than the OP but does not have the waist ribbon. But it has a bow on the upper part of the bib and half back shirring. It also has a removable waist tie at the back, making it flexible in terms of sizing. The sax colourway does not have the same effect as the pink x purple one. However, the pink ribbon borders on the print do stand out more, which creates a strong effect.

 

 

 

The skirt of this series is another non-traditional miniskirt that you cannot fit a petticoat in. Sure, Lolita does not always require one but the shape of this miniskirt seems to be very inflexible because the hips need to be within a certain width or the skirt will not fit in contrast to the traditional bell-shaped skirt, which is a free size in the hip area. With this particular skirt, the pleats break up such a beautiful print, which is a shame but the ribbon detailing on the upper area is a nice touch.

 

Overall, the Paris inspired print does give the impression of walking though a Parisian street with cafes, patisseries and other kinds of shops. The print also includes two features of Paris: The Eiffel tower and a woman (in this case a girl dressed in Lolita) walking her poodle. I would consider buying the OP or the halter neck jumper skirt in either pink/purple or sax if I could.



Baby's Seven Colour Prism

I'm sorry it's been more than a month since I posted. I've been really busy studying.

In this post, I will be reviewing Baby's Seven Colour Prism Series.

First is the Seven Colour Prism Alice Chan Patterned Saint JSK. The neckline is unusual for a Lolita JSK, in my opinion because it is a boat neck. It does give it a 50's flair though. The skirt is a tiered one that does look nice with the theme of the JSK. The sizing of the dress does seem to be flexible but is still small. Overall, the JSK does look cute and is a unique piece that could be welcome in a sweet wardrobe. Because of the quirkiness of the JSK but still being cute, I would consider buying it.

 

Next up is the Seven Colour Prism Alice Chan Skirt. It is a simple skirt as the only decorations added to it are the lace and ribbon on the hem, making the print on the skirt stand out. The print is a cute print that is Alice based but does it in a softer way by use of pastel colours. One problem with the skirt is that it will only fit those with a small waist of less than 70cm. Even AP's standard sizing allows girls with a waist bigger than 70cm to fit in most standard skirts. However, this skirt is cute and is something I would like to buy.

 

If I could buy at least either the JSK or the skirt, I would choose either pink or sax because I think they would look nicer with such a soft, pastel print.

 

 

I could not resist these pieces of jewellery in the series. A biscuit with "Eat me" written on them is a cute way of referring to Alice in Wonderland and they are not too OTT to wear with everyday clothing. Because of this, I would buy these if I ever have the chance to. I would possibly choose at least one item of each colour (milk tea or white) because they are cute and the biscuits do look decadent.



Angelic Pretty's Candy Fun Fair series

In this post, I will review AP's Candy Fun Fair OP, JSK and skirt.

 

 First, the OP has a quite distinct bodice and skirt. One thing which is lovely about the OP is that it has back shirring, which makes it something that will fit a wide range of sizes, from standard Japanese to plus-size it seems. Another feature about the OP which I like is the white bib on the bodice, which has lace edges as well as a centre that alternates between a button and a ribbon. Overall, the OP seems to be very flexible in terms of sizing and is a piece that is quite unique. Because it is quite OTT, it is probably best suited to a meet up/convention in my opinion.

 

Next, the JSK is a bit less OTT than the OP but has features such as a waist bow and beading lace across the skirt that does affect its daily wearability. As with the OP, it has back shirring which stretches quite significantly, making it ideal for those who are plus sized. The use of rick rack as a trim is an alternative to lace as well as having no trim on the bottom tier. This would be a piece that could be worn outside of meetups or conventions if the wearer is daring enough to do so as it is still different from mainstream fashion.

 

 Finally, the skirt is quite simple in terms of detail other than the print and can be worn with or without the suspenders, further increasing the daily wearability of this item. The details with the skirt include rick rack and a few bows. I do like the scalloped hem with the lace at the bottom as it does add a decorative touch without adding on too much. One problem with the skirt though, is that it is in standard AP skirt sizing, which means that it is fairly limited in terms of sizing. Overall, it is a fairly simple skirt for sweet Lolita that could be worn by the daring on a semi-regular basis but due to the scalloped hem, I would not advise it to be worn without a petticoat.

The print does remind me of a carnival and makes me feel of eating something sweet. Because of this and the detail on the OP and the JSK, I would buy one of them if I could but would like the skirt if it would fit me. In terms of colourway, I would have a hard time deciding between ivory, mint and red because they bring out different aspects of the print without blurring the print, as black does.

Meta's Fancy Egg

For my first opinion post on a brand print, I have chosen to do Meta's Fancy Egg.

First, the pinafore jumperskirt in mini length does seem to have a nice cupcake shape and might be well suited to a sweet-classic wardrobe or a sweet wardrobe.  The bows on the straps add a nice touch as well as the waist ribbon. Compared to other jumperskirts, this one is relatively simple. Personally, I would have considered adding lace to the hem instead of chiffon but that is just my taste.

The skirt is also cupcake shaped, which would also make it well suited to a sweet-classic or a sweet wardrobe. Even though there is chiffon attached to the hem, there is less on the skirt, which makes it look better. On the waist, there is a removable bow that has a pearl chain attached to it. As with the jumperskirt, this skirt is also quite simple.

Between the jumperskirt and the skirt, I would choose the skirt because of the bow and the lower amount of chiffon used. Between the four colours (black, pink, sax and green), I would have a hard time choosing between pink and sax because they both add brightness to the print and bring out the best in the colour palette used for the print.
